Zane Goddard has finished P15 in his 250km Endurance Race, despite a clash, at the Bathurst 1000 for Round 6 of the Super2 Series Championship.
Goddard began the weekend in Practice where both sessions were hampered by wet weather and a brake failure reduced his second session to a minimal 4 laps.
Heading into Qualifying on Friday afternoon, Goddard finally got his first dry laps around Mount Panorama for the weekend but his best lap was only enough for P20 in a difficult session.
After a tough start off of the line, Goddard had dropped to P21 but moved through the field and nailed his first Pit-Stop in the 250km race.
Putting on an impressive display in front of Australia’s largest Motorsport crowd, Goddard managed to climb into P8 and was on-track for his best finish yet in the Super2 Category.
Following the Safety Car restart Goddard climbed into P7 but on the incline to the Mountain, he was hit in the rear which damaged the car and sent it into the wall.
Goddard returned to Pit Lane and had the car’s damage repaired, rejoining the field four laps down, eventually crossing the line in P15.
Goddard has now moved up one place in the Super2 Series Championship to 14th.
“NOT WHAT WE WERE HOPING FOR, WAS SITTING IN P7 AFTER THE BJR BOYS AND GIRLS NAILED THE PIT STOP BUT UNFORTUNATELY AFTER GETTING CLIPPED IN THE REAR SOME DAMAGE PUT US IN THE WALL. BIG THANKS TO THE WHOLE TEAM FOR GETTING ME BACK OUT. STILL MANAGED TO FINISH P15 AND NOW SITTING 14TH IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP.”
Goddard will now prepare for the Newcastle 500, to be held on 23 – 25 November, with all Races to be broadcast LIVE on Fox Sports.
