Zane Goddard has finished P4 & P5 at the Townsville 400 for Round 3 of the 2019 Super2 Series Championship.
Goddard finished P4 in a tough Qualifying session, admitting he made a couple of small mistakes but still managed to secure a second-row start.
Goddard avoided carnage off the start line where several cars were taken out of the Race but dropped into P5.
The two extended Safety Car Periods reduced the racing time and Goddard crossed the line in P5 but his result was improved to P4 when the Race Winner was penalised.
“We had a pretty good race, there was a lot of carnage at the start which I’m glad we managed to avoid. Throughout the race I’d catch a break but it would never last long due to the safety cars which meant you really had someone breathing down your neck the entire time! Happy to collect solid championship points.” – ZANE GODDARD
Goddard qualified P6 for Sunday’s race and had a good start, but an early Safety car held up the Race from laps 2 to 8 and again on lap 10.
On the lap 14 race restart, the 21-lap outing was shortened to become time sensitive and as a result, there was only 1 lap of racing before the chequered flag.
Goddard crossed the line in P6 but had his result promoted to P5 as the car in front of him was penalised.
Following his P4 & P5 finishes, Goddard has remained 2nd in the Super2 Series Championship Standings.
“Another good points haul today with P5 but unfortunately just wasn’t our day to get our hands on any silverware. Still 2nd in the Super2 Series the championship so I’m keen to press on to Ipswich!” – ZANE GODDARD
Goddard’s next event will be the Ipswich SuperSprint for Round 4 of the 2019 Super2 Series, to be held on 26 – 28 July.
