Zane Goddard has finished P6 in the only points race of the weekend at the Newcastle 500 for the final Round of the Super2 Series Championship.
Goddard qualified P11 for the opening Race of the Newcastle 500 despite making a small mistake on the last corner.
Taking off from the 6th Row, Goddard was able to claim a position for P10 by avoiding a collision and then made his way to P9 with another pass.
Goddard worked his way into P6 by keeping his nose clean and finished there after 20 Laps.
Goddard was ecstatic with his progressions through the race and claiming his best result in the Super2 Series to date.
“SUCH A GOOD RACE, MANAGED TO MISS SOME CRASHES AND KEEP PUSHING ON, I HAD PRESSURE THE WHOLE WAY AROUND AND ACTUALLY LOCKED UP ON THE SECOND LAST LAP. STOKED WITH P6, OUR BEST RESULT OF THE SEASON YET! ONE MORE TOMORROW – WILL SEE IF WE CAN BEAT IT.”
After making some minor car adjustments overnight and having the track change so much since Race 1, Goddard qualified P18 in Sunday’s 20-minute session.
A large crash on Lap 5 meant the Safety Car was called as the field circulated until the race was suspended on Lap 10 and ultimately canceled.
Goddard finished his Rookie Season 14th in the Standings on 835 points, 687 points behind the Series Champion.
“THAT WAS SHORT AND SWEET! A BIG CRASH AND TRACK DAMAGE MEANT OUR RACE WAS CANCELLED WITH NO POINTS AWARDED. A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO ALL OF MY SPONSORS AND SUPPORTERS THIS YEAR, I’M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING WHAT WE CAN DO TOGETHER IN 2019.”
